Abstract

Introduction: Child labor in Indonesia shows that around 2.3 million children in Indonesia are involved in work. Children involved in work mostly work in the informal sector such as agriculture, trade, and services and often in conditions that are dangerous to their health and safety. Objective: This study aims to explore the experiences of elementary school children who sell pempek in Palembang and understand its impact in the perspective of community nursing. Method: The research method used is qualitative with techniques of observation and in-depth interviews with 10 elementary school children involved in selling pempek in Palembang. Results: The results of the study show that selling pempek provides valuable experiences for children in terms of social skills, independence, and an early understanding of economics. Despite facing challenges such as difficulty in balancing time between school and selling, these children demonstrate increased self-confidence and responsibility. The involvement of children in family economic activities requires special attention to their health and well-being. Community nursing focuses on preventive and collaborative approaches to improve the health of populations. Health education, social support, and cross-sector collaboration are important interventions to ensure that children can overcome the challenges they face without sacrificing their health. Through education and health counseling programs, as well as regular monitoring of children's health conditions, it is hoped that children will be able to maintain a balance between economic activities and their health. Conclusion: This study provides insights into how economic activities, such as selling, can impact the social and personal development of young children, as well as the importance of community support in maintaining their well-being. Support from family, school, and healthcare professionals is crucial in creating a healthy and supportive environment for children involved in economic activities.
