Author Policy

1. Purpose and Principles

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi recognizes authorship as both scholarly credit and responsibility. Authorship should accurately identify individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research and who accept responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical conduct of the published work.

This policy aims to:

  • ensure appropriate authorship credit for substantial scholarly contributions;
  • prevent honorary, gift, guest, coercive, purchased, fictitious, and ghost authorship;
  • distinguish authors from contributors who do not meet authorship criteria;
  • promote transparency regarding individual contributions;
  • establish the responsibilities of corresponding authors and co-authors; and
  • provide procedures for authorship changes and authorship-related concerns.

Authors are primarily responsible for determining who qualifies for authorship and agreeing on author order before submission. Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi may request supporting documentation or institutional clarification when potential authorship irregularities are identified.

2. Criteria for Authorship

Every person listed as an author must meet all four of the following criteria:

Substantial Contribution

The author has made a substantial intellectual contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data, documentary evidence, or other scholarly materials.

For conceptual, theoretical, and review articles, qualifying contributions may include developing the central argument, designing the analytical framework, or conducting substantive literature synthesis.

Intellectual Contribution to the Manuscript

The author has participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

Approval of the Final Version

The author has reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript to be published.

Accountability

The author agrees to be accountable for their contribution and to cooperate in ensuring that questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All individuals who satisfy these criteria should be identified as authors. Individuals who make substantial qualifying contributions should have an opportunity to participate in manuscript preparation, final approval, and accountability.

Academic position, institutional authority, seniority, reputation, general supervision, access to research participants, provision of facilities, or funding alone does not qualify an individual for authorship.

3. Author Responsibilities

Each author is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their individual contribution.

All authors should:

  • understand the overall objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions;
  • be aware of the principal contributions made by their co-authors;
  • have reasonable confidence in the integrity of their co-authors’ contributions;
  • cooperate with requests for data, ethical documentation, clarification, corrections, or investigations; and
  • help resolve legitimate questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of the work.

In pharmacy and health research, these responsibilities include accurate reporting of laboratory procedures, formulations, analytical methods, clinical or patient-related data, research participants’ accounts, and scientific interpretations. Authors must also comply with applicable research ethics requirements, protect confidential health information, and report findings without fabrication, selective omission, or misleading presentation.

Authors must distinguish empirical findings from interpretation and normative arguments. They must not fabricate evidence, misrepresent sources, or disclose confidential participant information without appropriate authorization.

4. Author Contribution Statement

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi requires manuscripts to include an Author Contribution Statement describing each author’s contribution.

Authors are encouraged to use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), where applicable. Roles include:

  • Conceptualization;
  • Data Curation;
  • Formal Analysis;
  • Funding Acquisition;
  • Investigation;
  • Methodology;
  • Project Administration;
  • Resources;
  • Software;
  • Supervision;
  • Validation;
  • Visualization;
  • Writing – Original Draft; and
  • Writing – Review & Editing.

An author may perform multiple roles, and a role may be attributed to more than one author.

For pharmacy and health studies, the statement may clarify activities such as formulation development, laboratory experiments, pharmaceutical analysis, method validation, clinical or pharmaceutical-care research, survey development, systematic literature review, statistical analysis, or theoretical development.

All authors must review and approve the contribution statement before submission.

Assignment of one or more CRediT roles does not automatically establish eligibility for authorship. Every author must satisfy all authorship criteria in this policy.

5. Non-Author Contributors and Acknowledgements

Individuals who contributed to the research or manuscript but do not satisfy all authorship criteria should be recognized, where appropriate, in the Acknowledgements section.

Such contributions may include:

  • routine data collection or transcription;
  • administrative or logistical assistance;
  • technical assistance;
  • language editing, proofreading, or translation;
  • manuscript formatting;
  • preparation of illustrations;
  • assistance in accessing archives, institutions, or field sites;
  • provision of facilities or equipment;
  • general supervision; and
  • funding acquisition without qualifying intellectual involvement.

The contribution should be clearly described. Permission must be obtained before identifying an individual by name.

Research participants, informants, community representatives, public officials, and organizational gatekeepers do not automatically qualify as authors because they provided information or facilitated access. However, community partners and other collaborators who satisfy all authorship criteria should receive appropriate authorship credit.

Acknowledgements must respect confidentiality and must not reveal protected identities, affiliations, or locations.

6. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi prohibits manipulation of authorship, including the following practices.

Honorary or Gift Authorship

Listing an individual primarily because of seniority, academic position, reputation, institutional authority, personal relationships, or expectations of reciprocal authorship when the individual does not satisfy the authorship criteria.

Guest Authorship

Including a prominent or influential individual primarily to enhance the manuscript’s perceived credibility or likelihood of acceptance.

Coercive Authorship

Using academic, supervisory, employment, political, financial, or institutional authority to demand authorship without a qualifying scholarly contribution.

Ghost Authorship

Excluding an individual who qualifies for authorship or concealing substantial writing or analytical involvement by another individual or organization.

Purchased or Sold Authorship

Buying, selling, offering, exchanging, transferring, or otherwise commercially trading positions in an article’s author list.

Fictitious or Fraudulent Authorship

Listing a nonexistent individual, using a false identity, impersonating another researcher, or using another person’s identity without authorization.

Authorship Without Consent

Including an individual as an author without their knowledge, manuscript approval, and agreement to accept authorship responsibility.

Suspected manipulation may result in suspension of manuscript processing, rejection, correction, retraction, notification of relevant institutions, or other proportionate action following appropriate assessment.

7. Author Order

Authors are collectively responsible for determining the order of their names.

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi does not determine author order or automatically interpret a particular position as indicating a specific level of contribution.

All authors should agree on author order before initial submission, considering their contributions and relevant disciplinary conventions.

An equal-contribution statement may be included when it accurately reflects the contributions and has been approved by all authors.

8. Corresponding Author

The Corresponding Author serves as the principal contact between the author group and Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi throughout submission, peer review, production, publication, and post-publication communication.

The Corresponding Author is responsible for:

  • ensuring that all listed authors satisfy the authorship criteria;
  • ensuring that eligible authors have not been omitted;
  • obtaining agreement on the author list and order;
  • ensuring accurate names, affiliations, ORCID identifiers, and contact information;
  • confirming that all authors approved the submitted manuscript;
  • coordinating contribution, funding, and conflict-of-interest statements;
  • keeping co-authors informed of editorial correspondence and decisions;
  • coordinating revisions and approval of the final manuscript;
  • responding promptly to editorial requests;
  • ensuring that relevant ethical documentation, permissions, and supporting materials can be provided through appropriate arrangements; and
  • remaining available after publication to address legitimate questions or integrity concerns.

Requests involving confidential research materials, sensitive health information, patient records, or clinical and laboratory data must be handled consistently with participant consent, research ethics requirements, data-protection obligations, and applicable restrictions.

The Corresponding Author’s role does not diminish the responsibilities of other authors.

9. Use of Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Generative artificial intelligence systems and AI-assisted tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of articles published in Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi.

AI systems cannot satisfy authorship requirements because they cannot approve the final manuscript, accept accountability, declare competing interests, or independently respond to research-integrity concerns.

Human authors remain fully responsible for content generated, edited, translated, coded, analyzed, or otherwise assisted by AI.

Substantive AI use must be transparently disclosed. The disclosure should identify the tool and explain its purpose and extent of use. Where AI forms part of the research methodology, sufficient methodological detail must also be provided.

Authors must verify AI-assisted outputs, including references, quotations, translations, coding, and interpretations. AI use must not compromise participant confidentiality or the protection of sensitive research materials.

10. Finalization of the Author List

The complete author list should be finalized before initial submission and remain consistent between the manuscript and submission metadata.

Before submission, all authors should agree on:

  • inclusion in the author list;
  • author order;
  • designation of the Corresponding Author;
  • institutional affiliations;
  • the Author Contribution Statement;
  • funding and conflict-of-interest declarations; and
  • the manuscript version being submitted.

Affiliations must accurately represent the relevant institutional relationships. Authors must not claim affiliations without authorization or misrepresent institutional support.

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi may request ORCID identifiers, identity confirmation, contribution records, authorship declarations, or other reasonable documentation to verify authorship.

11. Changes to Authorship Before Acceptance

Requests to add, remove, replace, or reorder authors after submission will be considered only when a legitimate, clearly documented reason is provided.

The Corresponding Author must submit:

  1. A description of the requested change;
  2. A clear justification;
  3. An updated Author Contribution Statement; and
  4. Written agreement from all existing authors and individuals being added or removed.

An individual being added must confirm that they satisfy the authorship criteria, approve the manuscript, and accept the associated responsibilities.

An individual being removed should confirm agreement to the removal. Where agreement cannot be obtained, the matter will be handled under the authorship-dispute procedures rather than treated as an agreed change.

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi may suspend peer review or editorial processing while evaluating the request. Approval rests with the Editor.

12. Changes to Authorship After Acceptance

After formal acceptance, additions, removals, replacements, or changes in author order will be considered only under exceptional circumstances.

Publication may be suspended during assessment. Authors must provide the documentation required for pre-acceptance changes and explain why the issue was not resolved earlier.

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi may decline or defer a request when:

  • the justification is inadequate;
  • the change conflicts with documented contributions;
  • agreement from affected authors is unavailable;
  • there is evidence of coercion or authorship trading; or
  • an unresolved dispute requires institutional investigation.

13. Changes to Authorship After Publication

Authorship information in a published Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi article will not be changed silently.

When a legitimate change is approved, Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi will normally publish a formal Correction linked to the original article and update the relevant metadata.

The journal may require:

  • written agreement from affected authors;
  • an updated contribution statement;
  • supporting institutional documentation;
  • confirmation from individuals being added or removed; and
  • an explanation of the original omission or error.

A verified institutional determination may inform editorial action where agreement among authors cannot be reached.

An authorship dispute alone does not automatically warrant retraction. Editorial action will depend on the evidence and whether the concern affects the reliability or integrity of the publication.

14. Authorship Disputes

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi does not normally adjudicate unresolved disputes about eligibility for authorship or author order.

The journal may:

  • request that authors seek a documented resolution;
  • suspend review, acceptance, production, or publication;
  • request evidence of individual contributions;
  • refer the matter to relevant institutions or research-integrity bodies; and
  • take appropriate editorial action when misconduct is established.

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi will generally rely on documented agreement among affected authors or an appropriate institutional determination before making substantive authorship changes.

Concerns will be handled fairly, with an opportunity for affected individuals to respond and with appropriate protection of confidential information.

15. Submissions from Editors and Editorial Board Members

Editors and Editorial Board members submitting to Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi must meet the same authorship, ethical, and scientific requirements as other authors.

An Editor or Editorial Board member who is an author must have no involvement in the editorial handling or decision-making for that manuscript.

The submission will be assigned to another qualified editor without a relevant conflict of interest. The author-editor must not participate in reviewer selection, confidential review discussions, or the publication decision.

Editorial membership does not confer preferential treatment or guarantee acceptance.

16. Policy Review

Jurnal Kesehatan Farmasi may periodically review and update this policy in response to developments in scholarly publishing, contributor taxonomies, publication ethics, and research-integrity practices.

This policy is intended to support fair authorship attribution, transparent contributions, accountability, and research integrity across empirical, theoretical, methodological, and review-based scholarship in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, and related health fields.
