PERBEDAAN KARAKTERISTIK FILM KITOSAN (SCYLLA SERRATA) DENGAN PENGENTAL GELATIN DAN XANTHAN GUM SEBAGAI MEDIA PENGHANTARAN OBAT DALAM TERAPI PERIODONTAL
Differences in Characteristics of Chitosan (Scylla Serrata) Films with Gelatin and Xanthan Gum Thickener as Drug Delivery Media in Periodontal Therapy
Abstract
Latar belakang: Produksi limbah cangkang kepiting bakau yang mencapai 75% dari total produksi memiliki kandungan kitin. Kandungan kitin yang ada di dalam cangkang kepiting dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku kitosan. Kitosan yang dikombinasikan dengan pengental gelatin dan xanthan gum dapat digunakan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan film periodontal. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan karakteristik film kitosan (Scylla serrata) dengan pengental gelatin dan xanthan gum sebagai media penghantaran obat dalam terapi periodontal. Metode: penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dengan subjek berupa film dari kitosan (Scylla serrata) dengan pengental gelatin dan xanthan gum. Sampel terdiri dari 1 jenis film kitosan-gelatin dan 1 jenis film kitosan-xanthan gum yang dipotong dengan ukuran sesuai standar alat uji karakteristik film. Hasil: karakteristik film kitosan-xanthan gum lebih baik dan memenuhi standar dalam penilaian karakteristik film periodontal, sehingga disimpulkan bahwa film dari kitosan (Scylla serrata) dengan pengental xanthan gum memiliki nilai karakteristik film yang lebih baik dan memenuhi syarat dibandingkan dengan penggunaan kombinasi bahan kitosan dengan pengental gelatin sebagai sediaan dalam sistem penghantaran obat khususnya untuk terapi periodontal.
