UJI IN VITRO KOMBINASI EKSTRAK DAUN JAMBU BIJI (Psidium guajava L) DAN KULIT BUAH SALAK (Salacca zalacca) TERHADAP BAKTERI E coli
Abstract
Escherichia coli bacterial infection is one of the main causes of digestive tract disorders and shows resistance to several conventional antibiotics. Plants such as guava leaves (Psidium guajava L.) and snake fruit skin (Salacca zalacca) are alternative plants that are potential traditional treatments because they have secondary metabolites alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins that have antibacterial effectiveness. This study aims to
determine the effectiveness of the combination of ethanol extracts of the two ingredients on the growth of Escherichia coli. This study was conducted using the disc diffusion method. Maceration is the extraction method chosen using 96% ethanol solvent in a ratio of 1:5. Snake fruit skin extract and guava leaf extract were combined with concentrations of 20%:30%, 20%:40%, and 20%:50%. Testing was carried out on nutrient agar media inoculated with Escherichia coli and incubated for 24 hours at 37°C. The results showed that the combination of extracts had antibacterial activity with inhibition zone diameters of 14.95 mm (strong), 17.01 mm (strong), and 20.25 mm (very strong), respectively. The positive control of ciprofloxacin showed an inhibition zone of 29.12 mm, while the negative control did not show an inhibition zone. The ANOVA test showed significant results (p = 0.001), indicating a significant difference between treatments.
