Abstract
Background: Central obesity is a condition in which the body experiences excessive accumulation of visceral fat in the abdominal area, part of the metabolic syndrome component that causes degenerative diseases. Central obesity and morbidity rates in police in Indonesia are quite high, which is almost half of the total police in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep duration and family history of central obesity in police in East Lampung. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional study design. The population in this study was 858 police with a sampling method using simple random sampling so that a sample size of 148 respondents was obtained. Data collection techniques were in-depth interviews using questionnaires. Data analysis used the Chi Square test. Results: The results of this study describe that 48.6% of police experience central obesity. Most (76.4%) police have a short sleep duration (<7 hours/day). As many as 33.8% of police have a family history of central obesity. There is a relationship between sleep duration and central obesity in police at the East Lampung Police (p value 0.028). There is a relationship between family history and central obesity in police officers at Polres Lampung Timur (p value 0.010). Conclusion: There is a relationship between sleep duration and family history with central obesity in police officers at Polres Lampung Timur indicated by p value <0.05
